The Gift of Love

In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul describes love as kind, humble, unfailing, and most importantly selfless. He prophecies that everything will fail us but love. Tongues shall cease, knowledge will vanish, but pure love will always be there. He declares that perfect love excels and exceeds all else. All these phrases and definitions are beautiful and make you feel good inside and inspire you to become better, but they are dead if they are not put into action. Today I learned that having the pure love of Christ is moving beyond our comfort zone and loosing ourselves for others. Well you might ask, how did you learn this? Honestly I just watched a movie.

Jack and Molly Campbell enjoyed a perfect life with their adopted 6-year-old son, Joey. One phone call shatters their world when they learn Joey's biological father has just been released from prison and discovered a loop hole in the adoption papers and now lays claim to his son. He wants to start a new life by taking back his son. The parents are devastated and try to do all in their power to not have their little boy taken away from them but everything fails. After Joey visits his biological parents for some weeks we learn that they actually do love him and that they have changed their lives around so that they can raise their little boy the best way they can. But Jack and Molly raised him like their own right? They have a right to keep Joey the other parents gave him up they should not have a say at all! Well that's not what the judge thought so after six years of raising their son, Joey is taken away from his adoptive parents and given to his biological parents. Don't get me wrong the whole movie all I wanted was Joey to go back to Molley and Jack but I gotta admit his biological parents did love him. After a series of events, Joey's biological mom returns Joey to Jack and Molley. And she says something to them that hit me really hard, "You tell Joey he has two moms. One who loves him enough she will never let him go and one who loved him enough she had to let him go."

That right there is what I would call pure love.
